I’ve been continually impressed with the ways that Citi has been making their rewards points accessible and redeemable. Over the year’s I’ve talked about programs such as their dual-mode credit card, which allows redemption of some points at the push of a button, as well as the Shop With Points feature on Amazon, which lets users redeem points for part or all of a purchase. Now comes their latest innovation: Rewards Accounts Numbers, which takes the entire process a step further. Continue reading
Saving a bit more, one week at a time
With the year drawing to a close, thoughts turn to the new year, and inevitably, new year’s resolutions. I’m not particularly fond of them; I think it’s an arbitrary date that doesn’t spur on real change, but temporary motivation (I’m for sure in that camp). That said, I’m never going to argue against things that encourage good habits, as long as people stay focused, so if it works for others, fantastic. One such resolution, which seems to be getting passed around each year around this time, is the 52-week money challenge. Continue reading
Returning to the rhythm of posting daily
When I kicked off the blog a little over a year ago, I contemplated the posting frequency. When I don’t post much, I find the gaps are long between entries. When I get into it and can get into a rhythm, they come fast and furious. Continue reading
Required viewing: Larry Miller’s ‘Five Stages of Drinking’
This routine is a classic. Larry Miller, a comedian whose name you may not know off the top of your head but certainly will look familiar from a career filled with movies, TV and stand-up comedy, has the quintessential take on drinking and the various permutations of nights that can pop up. Are eBook settlement payments finally near?
I’ve written here previously about the eBook settlements book publishers made regarding lawsuits around eBook pricing. Previously, settlement amounts made the news, but the actual payments seemed further and further in the distance. Continue reading
YouTube has everything: Night Stand with Dick Dietrick
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXOnk_gWolA
In the mid-90s, a show that aired in syndication late nights for a couple of seasons, and also aired as a companion to Howard Stern’s radio show and Talk Soup on E!, was a favorite of my father’s and I. “Night Stand with Dick Dietrick” was a show I enjoyed so much I made a fan site for it when I was in high school. Continue reading
Christmas Present: 2 years in review (and Spotify playlist!)
The second Christmas Present season comes to a close today, given today is Christmas day. To give you something to enjoy the holiday, this year I’ve compiled 20 posts of Christmas Present selections (at least what’s available anyway) into a Spotify playlist. Continue reading
Christmas Present: Straight No Chaser’s ‘Wonderful Christmastime’
I began this cycle of Christmas Present with a selection of “Wonderful Christmastime” by The Shins. Let’s end the cycle with another take. This time, the artist is Straight No Chaser, which brings Paul McCartney into the mix, giving this edition a nod from the man who originally brought the song to life. Continue reading
The Magic Garden returns to WPIX for one evening
WPIX, channel 11 in New York City, had a long, proud history of being an independent station with locally-produced programming and various branding evolutions. When the WB came into existence in the mid-90s, it affiliated with that network until it merged with UPN to become the CW, and it currently airs CW programming. Continue reading
The women of SNL invite you to check out their ‘Twin Bed’
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCCV_nB7HJk
It was bound to be a highlight of the season: Jimmy Fallon returned Saturday to SNL, with Justin Timberlake as a musical guest. The cameo-filled episode also included a number of sketches that the duo were famous for, enough so that it could be forgiven for someone not paying attention to think they were hosting together.
