Above is Richard Blumenthal, a current U.S. Senator for Connecticut and, at the time, our state’s attorney general. He gained a reputation for being very vocal and fighting on behalf of our residents, although some questioned his tactics. He showed up at a fundraiser I was co-chairing a few years back as he was running for his current seat.

It’s that combination of showmanship and photo ops that almost got him in a bit of trouble, however, when doing a press conference with Milford Mayor Ben Blake about Metro-North’s safety record, and ironically it’s just after Blake says “safety, as you know, is paramount” that Blumenthal is almost hit by a train. Of course, it was an Amtrak train, so Metro-North can plead ignorance this time.
