The Kentucky Derby and Thomas Hooker at Mohegan Sun

My father has long enjoyed the environment of the big horse races, most notably the Kentucky Derby, but this year, we opted to do something a bit different and head up to Mohegan Sun.

Dad likes to place the smallest of bets, but it’s more the environment of being in a room with others enjoying a short but exciting moment. Mohegan Sun certainly amplified it, given the large number of people there.

A nice side effect was getting to check out the new Thomas Hooker setup at Mohegan Sun, as they’re in the Racebook. They were serving their line of wares at no additional charge for those betting, and as someone who’s already a fan of the Hooker Blonde, that was a nice side effect of the day. I also got to try their chocolate stout, which was good.

Through a series of trips and beer tastings I’ve found myself getting more interested in deviating outside the standard American beers; for those who are looking to start with a great option, Hooker’s line is a good place to explore, and they’re an in-state brew, which means you’re supporting a local business.

It’s also a good show of support by Mohegan Sun to partner with a local business. They’re making some news in Massachusetts for doing the same as part of a proposed new casino, and it’s a nice strategy.
