As Facebook continues its relentless march towards world domination, it continues to make decisions that will help it earn revenue, something that is at times at odds with what users would choose as their ideal experience.  One such decision is auto-play videos and their growing prominence in the newsfeed.  Fortunately, like with other settings that has led Facebook to catch some flack, there is a way to turn it off.

Yahoo! Tech had a great write-up, explaining how to do disable auto-play for both desktop and mobile. Sadly, they have to be done separately, on an appropriate device for each, and on mobile it can only be disabled on a cell connection, not WiFi, which indicates mobile is probably the biggest target for this technology.

While I can’t say I can recall seeing an actual video ad, I’m sure they’re coming, and I’m not looking forward to it.
