Genevieve Schatz, formerly of Company of Thieves, has been working on solo material for a bit now, and now the first big single, “Colors,” has made its way online.

The sound definitely moves away from a lot of what Company of Thieves was made of, but it’s still Genevieve, as her unique singing is clearly here. The backbeat, with the 4th beat high-hat, reminds me just a bit of a slowed down Meredith Brooks “Bitch” feel, but it doesn’t feel outdated despite that. It’s a promising new start for the singer, and hopefully there’s more like it to come.
