Christmas Present: The Puppini Sisters’ “Jingle Bells”

christmas-present-2

If the rule of Christmas Present is most songs should be relatively current or by current artists, it’s only fair to allow a bit cheating by including artists that intentionally invoke a different era.  Such is the case of The Puppini Sisters.Invoking those classic singing groups like The Andrews Sisters, The Puppini Sisters (who are not related) create close-harmony magic.  This is another one of those groups that iTunes introduced me to, and the deeper I’ve dug, the more I’ve, well, dug.

“Jingle Bells” is the most representative of the set; the entire song is beautifully harmonized and shows the power of the trio. The throwback production (drumming, horns, etc.) is just beautifully done and it checks off another Christmas Present hallmark of being so incredibly cheerful and upbeat.

A second version of the song, a duet (quartet?) with Michael Buble, was released last year.

Additional listening

The Mariah Carey classic “All I Want for Christmas is You” has never sounded so retro!  Beautiful harmonies once again.

Not Christmas related, but they tackle other standards just as easily.  The Bangles’ “Walk Like an Egyptian” never quite sounded like this!
