For the second year, WestJet, a Canadian airline, has pulled out all the stops for a deservedly viral video that shows what the true meaning of Christmas can feel like when a group of people get together and make wishes come true. Continue reading

An encounter with a different sort of Krispy Kreme
A co-worker brought this to my attention recently, and I’m not quite sure what to make of it. It’s (seemingly) intentionally awful, holiday themed, and the artist himself changed his name to Froggy Fresh after a legal cease-and-desist from the famous doughnut brand.
In the spirit of the holidays, enjoy, laugh, and explore more from Froggy Fresh if you’re feeling ambitious.
A new-ish tradition: Modern Christmas cards
Last year, I wrote about my efforts to have a bit of fun with the tradition of sending Christmas cards. Two years ago, thanks to Charles Apple, I became aware of Red Letter Paper Co., the creation of Stephanie Hinderer, a former visual journalist who found herself frustrated with what was in stores and took her own spin on Christmas cards. I’ve once again gravitated back to her store, as each year she refreshes the line with new choices and I never come away disappointed. Continue reading
Amazon’s ’25 Days of Free Holiday Songs’ returns
Last year, I shared with you Amazon’s 25 Days of Free Holiday Songs, a recurring promotion they have offered which features 25 free MP3s to download for the holidays. The good news is it’s back, and the mixed news is it’s about as good as last year’s batch. Continue reading
Another reason to avoid Black Friday
I was just sent this, footage from a fight that broke out during the parade of people fighting over cheap TVs at a Wal-Mart. I worked Black Friday a couple of times as a Circuit City employee, including watching my store manager at the time, rolling out some more cheap portable CD players (ooh!), get knocked on his rump by people who couldn’t wait. Continue reading
The Cadbury Screme Egg: A mixture of excitement and sadness
While shopping the other day I tripped across something I’d never seen before: The Cadbury Screme Egg. It appears to have existed overseas for awhile, but it’s a new product here in the U.S. My initial reaction was a mixture of excitement… and sadness. Continue reading
Christmas Present: Christina Perri’s “Something About December”
In my introduction to the Christmas Present series, I panned Christina Perri’s attempt at covering Karen Carpenter’s “Merry Christmas Darling” for playing it too close to the original, but without having the vocal warmth of Carpenter. Fortunately, Perri’s “A Very Merry Perri Christmas” (ugh, the rhyme), released this year, has a gem of its own. Continue reading
Christmas Present: Cee Lo Green’s “All I Need is Love”
One of the latest Christmas albums, released this year, comes from Cee Lo Green, who’s been a pretty creative force in music the past few years. A few of his tracks have been added to the “Christmas Present” playlist this year. Continue reading
Christmas Present: Virginia Kegel’s “I Want a Boob Job for Christmas”
OK, so here’s something completely crass, but it fits the “fun” element of the playlist: a song found on a number of Bob & Tom Show collections, where the song originated. Continue reading
Christmas Present: Relient K’s ‘Merry Christmas, Here’s to Many More’
Today I introduce some of my favorite tracks from what has proven to be my favorite Christmas album since I began my “Christmas Present” experiement: Relient K’s “Let it Snow… Let it Reindeer.” (Nice pun.) The Christian band makes Christmas music awfully fun. Continue reading
