Forcebook

troll-face

I’m woefully behind in listening to Never Not Funny: The Jimmy Pardo Podcast, a pioneer program that recently brought back free audio (a post directly about the podcast in general will follow soon), but there was a concept mentioned on an episode I was listening to recently brought up the term “Forcebook,” which I think is brilliant. YouTube has everything: Classic SCTV sketches

sctv-classics

While Saturday Night Live has lasted for nearly 40 years now, there was a point, as the original cast was moving on, that another show was set up to potentially supplant it. It didn’t succeed, but the legacy of SCTV lives on, and thankfully some of the classic bits are readily available thanks to the Internet. Continue reading

Peanuts revival looks promising

peanuts-movie

For me, animated films are hit or miss.  Some look really cool, others don’t impress me. So when I saw that a trailer for a Peanuts movie coming next year, I was curious, although concerned, given that creator Charles Schultz had passed and it was his unique vision that made the characters so special. Based on the trailer, my concerns are, for now, allayed. Continue reading

Safety culture lacking at Metro-North, report finds

grand-central-shutdown

After December’s derailment, the FRA promised a thorough investigation into Metro North to determine what problems existed at the agency and what should be done to fix it. In the intervening months, things haven’t particularly improved, as my previous posts have noted. The report came out, and it’s pretty damning. Continue reading

Patrice Wilson strikes again, in multiple languages

grace-liu-get-into-my-car

He’s trolled us before, but I can’t decide if this trumps Alison Gold – he’s Grace Liu with a multi-language song.  The lead into the chorus is just repeating the notes “Do-do-do-re-re-re” and so on into a chorus where she repeats “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.” As usual, it’s catchy in that generic pop music sort of way. Watch after the jump. Continue reading

Licensing health exchange website tech for fun and profit

health-insurance

What happens when one government entity fails, but another succeeds? The one that succeeded could potentially benefit while at the same time helping others.  At least that’s the idea behind Connecticut offering to license its health exchange online offering as a service to other states, having worked out the kinks successfully and having above-average enrollment here in the Constitution State. Music other people like: Cash Cash

cash-cash

Every so often Nick at The Littlest Winslow pops up a music post that catches my attention. A couple of weeks ago, he posted a few tracks by Cash Cash, which seems to blend the pop/EDM/dubstep line pretty well within their repertoire. Continue reading

YouTube has everything: Earning a degree at home

Long before there was the University of Phoenix, there was International Correspondence School, or ICS.  Those who watched enough TV in the early 90s could probably from memory recite the list about “High School, TV/VCR Repair, Computer Programming,” and so on… “or get your degree! You can major in Business Management or Accounting.” Continue reading
