The Alternate Routes, led by Tim Warren and Eric Donnelly, got their start at Fairfield University, my alma mater. Many of us who went to college with them have their stories; mine is that I took a calculus class with Warren freshman year. Later on, after he graduated, I walked around one evening and helped him post up fliers for a show as we caught up. He was always a nice guy, and the Alternate Routes have always made great music. It’s kind of crazy that Coldplay has been out there for 15 years, but yet they’ve been cranking out moody, introspective music successfully for quite some time.  While their sound has evolved and changed with the times, the same core feeling and mood, led by Chris Martin’s singing, has thankfully remained intact. Mourning the death of Boxerjam

Like many who were early to the Internet, I had for a time an AOL account, and became a big fan of some of the online multiplayer games that existed.  There was Slingo, of course, which has survived well and is around and kicking, but another suite of games that existed was Boxerjam’s games, which included both daily games called “The Puzzle Zone” and an online suite of game shows, which were created by Julann Griffin, wife of “Jeopardy!” creator Merv Griffin. In the late 90s, novelty dance acts were picking up a bit of momentum.  One such act, at least in Europe, was Cartoons.  I became introduced to them while on a school-sponsored trip to Italy (my only such trip to Europe, alas), and saw their music video for “Witch Doctor” on TV. New leadership at Metro-North; I’m hopeful

After what’s been a painful year at Metro-North, new leadership stepped in a few weeks ago, and he’s already begun making the rounds, promising improvement and change.  Joseph Giulietti worked for Metro-North during its early days, helping to stabilize and improve a railroad that was neglected in many ways by its previous ownership, and helped turn it into a stronger commuter railroad. Now, after an extended absence, he’s back to try to do it again in some ways. Continue reading
