Eighteen months ago, when I kicked off this site, I had a goal of trying to post daily. I made it a few weeks, but ultimately didn’t make it that far, although I did manage to update the site at a pace that yielded 100 posts for the first year. At the one-year anniversary, I decided to try again. Continue reading

Programming note: Taking a trip
A quick programming note here on the blog that I’ll be out for a couple of days; I’m taking a short trip with family up to the casinos to catch a show and enjoy the Kentucky Derby. The blog will get caught up in time (this post, itself, is part of that) but the daily posts will find their way up here.
Programming note: Fundraising season
This is traditionally a busy time of year for me; this year, through calendar shifts, two fundraisers that I support happened back to back weekends. This post is going up retroactively to mark time, as this was the first break in the posting schedule in months and I want a fighting chance of rebounding, but this weekend was the Imperial Sovereign Court of All Connecticut‘s Coronation, and the following weekend is the New Haven Pride Center‘s Dorothy Awards.
I’ll do my best to keep posting up through the duration, but a gap may be inevitable until after March 1.
200 posts in, and still posting daily… barely
Programming note for the blog: This is post number 200! It’s been a bit tough going in recent weeks; the day’s post has gone up awfully close to the end of the day a few times in recent weeks, due to my not being able to get posts prepared in advance, but I’m hanging in there with daily posts, something maintained now since November 28 (with a couple of days where a second post snuck in there!).
For those who have continued to follow along, thanks! I’ve got some more good stuff coming up (assuming I can write it all out), so stay tuned. Recently I tripped across a couple of albums by artists who I’ve loved for years, but didn’t know they had got their new albums out, so I guess it’ll be a review of quasi-new material at that point, but it’s worth covering nonetheless.
Music updates: Hank & Cupcakes, Strange Talk, Lily Allen, Kylie Minogue
The problem with once daily posting is, despite how hard it is to keep the pace, when things are actually going on, other news can fall behind or updates left out. So with a hat-tip to my friend Nick over at The Littlest Winslow, let’s focus on music on a Monday, shall we, with some updates to artists I’ve featured here in recent weeks: Continue reading
60 days, no interruptions: The daily grind.
Two months ago, I set out to attempt again what I couldn’t do last year; post daily without interruptions. I made it five weeks before falling down last time; this time around I’ve made it to the two month mark, and even managed to sneak in a second post in a day once during the duration. Continue reading
Returning to the rhythm of posting daily
When I kicked off the blog a little over a year ago, I contemplated the posting frequency. When I don’t post much, I find the gaps are long between entries. When I get into it and can get into a rhythm, they come fast and furious. Continue reading
Christmas Present: Songs other people like edition
Last year, friend and (twice) former colleague Ashley recommended a pair of holiday songs to add to the playlist, both worthy additions. She sent over a few suggestions this yer, and I’m happy to share them with you as we approach Christmas day. Continue reading
The first year in review
Thanksgiving weekend a year ago, I was able to pull the trigger and get this blog finished and moving. Given my personal site had been neglected for years, it was an accomplishment, and the fact that I’ve actually used it, and updated it, for a year, is to me another one (I have a tendency to let things fall off before a year has passed). With that in mind, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on a year here and what it’s meant. Continue reading
Mastering a domain… and proving it
My site in 2003. Technically, it was my site in 2012 too, before I finally rebuilt it last fall.
I recently encountered an article written by someone who claimed that knowing if someone’s an Internet expert could be vetted by how old the domains they own or have built are. If someone’s really a master, they would likely have been working online for a very long time, and have at least a couple of domain names to prove it. Continue reading
