Kylie’s ‘Crystallize’ gets a video

kylie-kiss-me-once

Earlier this year I posted a preview for a song being used for a charitable effort, “Crystallize,” which as I noted, if the preview was any indication, might’ve been the strongest Kylie track to pop up in a year or two. The song isn’t available on iTunes yet (purchases will also support the cancer charity), but the music video has hit, which allows us to hear the song in full, and it held up to the promise. Kylie fundraiser leads to preview of new song ‘Crystallize’

kylie-kiss-me-once

I’ve already explained here the struggle I’ve had with parts of Kylie Minogue’s new album, “Kiss Me Once,” so of course now she has to mess with me even further by releasing a 15 second sample of a song co-produced by Scissor Sisters’ member BabyDaddy, “Crystallize.” Continue reading

The Bird and the Bee reappear, with help from Matt Berninger

the-bird-and-the-bee

I missed this one initially when it came out in February, but better late than never: While The Bird and the Bee have been working towards an album that may see the light of day this year, a new track surfaced on the “Endless Love” soundtrack, featuring additional vocals from The National’s Matt Berninger. Thoughts on Kylie Minogue’s latest, ‘Kiss Me Once’

kylie-kiss-me-once

Having reviewed pretty much every Kylie release since I entered college (and she made her big U.S. return), I feel obligated, having chewed on “Kiss Me Once” since its release, to say something about it.  My initial reaction, carried through from the album preview I posted here a few weeks back, wasn’t that great, and I still can’t say I’m quite as enthused about this as her previous efforts. Getting into an artist with one song… but which?

that-one-song

When someone recommends you check out an artist, it can be an exercise in frustration if you need to know how to enter their catalog.  A new site in beta by This is My Jam, That One Song, attempts to declutter the situation by using the recommendations of many to define the definitive song. Music updates: Hank & Cupcakes, Strange Talk, Lily Allen, Kylie Minogue

lily-allen

The problem with once daily posting is, despite how hard it is to keep the pace, when things are actually going on, other news can fall behind or updates left out.  So with a hat-tip to my friend Nick over at The Littlest Winslow, let’s focus on music on a Monday, shall we, with some updates to artists I’ve featured here in recent weeks: Continue reading

Kylie Minogue returns with ‘Into the Blue’

kylie-minogue

It seems like not all that long ago that I discovered Kylie Minogue’s “Light Years” album, which was a bit before she rebounded in the states with megahit “Can’t Get You Out of My Head.”  But it’s been more than a decade, and now she’s preparing to release her 12th (!) full-length album, “Kiss Me Once.” Continue reading

Kylie shows off her new ‘Skirt’

Damn, it’s been a good year for music, and it just keeps on coming… check out this new track by Kylie Minogue, “Skirt,” which reinforces her ability to absorb dance trends and merge it with a pop sensibility, this time with some dubstep cred. It’s also a really cool lyric video that is pieced together from about 1,000 photographs.  If this is a taste of what to expect on Kylie’s as-yet-unfinished 12th album, we’re in for a treat.

UPDATED: I just tripped across a profile of her the New York Times published today; it’s a pretty in-depth look at the star, her history and what she’s trying to accomplish now.
