YouTube has everything: Delta’s new in-flight training video

airplane-safety

Anyone who flies on any sort of a regular basis has seen the safety presentation enough times to be able to likely recite the majority of it by memory.  Airlines know this, and have attempted to liven them up, particularly now that most planes are equipped with video screens to show pre-recorded versions. Hank & Cupcakes debut self-filmed ‘Cocaina’ video

hank-cupcakes-and-me

If it hasn’t been clear in the year plus I’ve been blogging, I’m an unabashed fan of Brooklyn duo Hank & Cupcakes.  I’ve been keeping you posted on the progress of their second album, “Cash for Gold,” which has already seen the release of first single “Countdown.” But this week, they released their first music video connected to the album, for the song “Cocaina.” Continue reading

YouTube has everything: ‘Penn & Teller: Fool Us’

josh-and-teller

In May I shared my visit to the MGM Grand at Foxwoods, where I had the opportunity to catch Penn & Teller live. They’re incredibly talented and put on a hell of a show.  But they don’t just do live acts; they’ve also had various television shows to spread their magic, in both literal and figurative senses, far and wide. YouTube has everything: Night Stand with Dick Dietrick

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXOnk_gWolA

In the mid-90s, a show that aired in syndication late nights for a couple of seasons, and also aired as a companion to Howard Stern’s radio show and Talk Soup on E!, was a favorite of my father’s and I.  “Night Stand with Dick Dietrick” was a show I enjoyed so much I made a fan site for it when I was in high school. An encounter with a different sort of Krispy Kreme

A co-worker brought this to my attention recently, and I’m not quite sure what to make of it.  It’s (seemingly) intentionally awful, holiday themed, and the artist himself changed his name to Froggy Fresh after a legal cease-and-desist from the famous doughnut brand.

In the spirit of the holidays, enjoy, laugh, and explore more from Froggy Fresh if you’re feeling ambitious.

YouTube has everything: Square One TV and Mathnet

As a kid, when others were watching MTV (I remember the first time I saw “Baby Got Back,” before it was banned, at my sitter’s house), I was watching a math-based children’s program called “Square One TV.” I was always a bit of a math junkie, and the show had it all: music videos by famous singers, recurring segments, corny humor, and the cornerstone at the end of each episode, Mathnet. Continue reading

PSY attempts to be a “Gentleman”

PSY, who came to fame from an absolutely absurd left-field hit, “Gangnam Style,” has officially released the follow-up, “Gentleman,” seen above. The song is more straight-ahead than the previous single, but has another catchy beat, easy-to-learn dance moves, some humor and some English lyrics for people to hook on as well. Continue reading

Clever use of YouTube tech for timeline

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPozYQmYrf0

The blog’s getting video heavy lately… I blame my job, but hey, I get my music fix.

During one of those deeper dives for music recently, I tripped across the above video, promoting a timeline of Abba’s videos.  It struck me as a clever use of existing YouTube tech to jump around in a video. Continue reading

Required listening: Mission Zero’s “When the Morning Comes”

I previously wrote about Mission Zero, a brother-sister duo who I’ve seen a couple of times live by now. They recently released a new song, which, after a naming contest, has been dubbed “When the Morning Comes.”  This could be their finest effort yet. Continue reading
