Cravings are a pain. When you need to satisfy that demand for something sweet, you don’t want to be hindered by something like time of day, even if it means traveling to the Upper East Side to get ahold of a cupcake at the latest trend to hit New York: The Cupcake ATM. Continue reading

Kindle users, your settlement has finally arrived!
For those following along here on the blog, my last post on the ebook settlements noted that we should see some movement on the settlement payouts by April. Sure enough, this morning Amazon emailed me, along with other Kindle owners, to announce the credit had been deposited and was available. Continue reading
Viacom and YouTube finally settle lawsuit
It was a lawsuit underway for many years, but with a settlement announcement, it’s finally over: Viacom, who sued Google and YouTube for $1 billion, has settled its suit, a somewhat inevitable outcome given the companies had been working together more closely in recent years. Continue reading
Licensing health exchange website tech for fun and profit
What happens when one government entity fails, but another succeeds? The one that succeeded could potentially benefit while at the same time helping others. At least that’s the idea behind Connecticut offering to license its health exchange online offering as a service to other states, having worked out the kinks successfully and having above-average enrollment here in the Constitution State. YouTube has everything: Earning a degree at home
Long before there was the University of Phoenix, there was International Correspondence School, or ICS. Those who watched enough TV in the early 90s could probably from memory recite the list about “High School, TV/VCR Repair, Computer Programming,” and so on… “or get your degree! You can major in Business Management or Accounting.” Continue reading

New leadership at Metro-North; I’m hopeful
After what’s been a painful year at Metro-North, new leadership stepped in a few weeks ago, and he’s already begun making the rounds, promising improvement and change. Joseph Giulietti worked for Metro-North during its early days, helping to stabilize and improve a railroad that was neglected in many ways by its previous ownership, and helped turn it into a stronger commuter railroad. Now, after an extended absence, he’s back to try to do it again in some ways. Continue reading
Taco Bell dives into the breakfast menu game with a splash
The latest fast food war is going after what’s routinely called the most important meal of the day: Breakfast. Following the lead of other chains like Subway, Taco Bell is entering the breakfast realm with its “first meal” menu that takes a page from the recent “Satisfries” announcement by having a catchy gimmick within the stack of breakfast items: the Waffle Taco. Continue reading
eBook settlements will get to us… by April
My voracious appetite for eBooks for a number of years (lately, it’s been off, but that’s because I’ve shifted back to print for a bit for a few series I always read each winter) means I’ve continued to watch carefully the progress of the eBook settlements with interest. Sadly, the wait continues, but there’s finally a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. Continue reading
Every job in America, mapped out in an infographic
I ran across this a few weeks ago but can’t pass up the opportunity to even belatedly share a pretty cool infographic: NPR put together a chart that shows the employment breakdown, effectively showing where every job in America exists and how they all group together. Continue reading
