Required listening: Mission Zero’s “When the Morning Comes”

I previously wrote about Mission Zero, a brother-sister duo who I’ve seen a couple of times live by now. They recently released a new song, which, after a naming contest, has been dubbed “When the Morning Comes.”  This could be their finest effort yet. Continue reading

Back to blogging

Back to the attempt to blog daily (I made it all of five weeks the first time).  This is a busy time of year; I participate in two organizations that are building towards their major fundraisers right now, which will keep me busy until early March, but the number of topics I wish to write about are building up quickly, so I’m going to start working towards getting back to daily posts again. Stay tuned!

Nicole Westbrook is back…

The girl who brought us “It’s Thanksgiving” (produced by Patrice Wilson, the guy who also brought us such gems as Rebecca Black’s “Friday”) is back with a song not nearly as gimmicky, “Smile.”  It’s fine as a pop song but doesn’t really have the same redeeming sing-along factor as “Mashed Potatoes… EY!” so I doubt this will catch on to the same level.  But hey, gotta keep plowing ahead (and actually, I suspect Westbrook probably can sing relatively well without all the vocal effects).  “It’s Thanksgiving” embedded after the jump: Continue reading

Driving in snow

Today was a solid snowstorm; I spent most of it working inside so all was well.  But I had planned on making my way up to Hartford to see Zack for his birthday, a plan that ended in failure when it took way longer than it should have to get from Bridgeport to New Haven, and the roads for most of that were more wet than snowy. (The traffic cams showed much less attractive roadways up in Hartford.) Continue reading

Get subway information, on the go

The MTA has not generally been known for being technologically advanced, although it’s hard to fault an organization that relies on equipment and infrastructure whose age can sometimes be marked with three digits in the years column.  That said, occasionally we get a glimpse of what progress can bring, and one such example just recently made its debut on the app store in a beta release. All-star benefit to help Sandy victims

One of Pixafy’s clients that I’ve had the pleasure of working with, Melanie Dunea, is photographer and author of the My Last Supper series and website. She has photographed many celebrities for magazine covers, book jackets, promotional advertisements and much, much more.  She’s also a lot of fun to work with, as well as a very kind individual. Christmas Present 2012: A recap

Christmas Present

Merry Christmas!  For the past month I’ve compiled selections in the inaugural year of the Christmas Present project; across 10 entries more than 20 songs have been selected for a different kind of holiday playlist.  Here, I recap them in the final hours of Christmas Day, and next year we’ll add more to the list. Christmas Present: Fitz and the Tantrums’ “Santa Stole My Lady”

christmas-present-4

Our last Christmas Present of the year is the first recommendation to come from a Facebook friend and co-worker, Ashley, who shared some of her own selections with me recently and, added bonus, they were made available as free downloads this season.  Of them, I love most her recommendation of a 2010 track from Fitz and the Tantrums, “Santa Stole My Lady.” Continue reading
